Hello folks, recently found an 84 Manta that I am considering purchasing for a resto project. Assumed owner has no paperwork, so I’m trying to locate a VIN plate on it. Any assistance or tips would be appreciated.

    hi
the vin should be on the inside of sled body at rear.
open up hood and look down towards you.
    thanks

Back again, we removed the upper body and had a good look in and around the chassis behind the engine, only thing I could find was a 4 digit number stamped in the lip of the aluminium at rear where the body would sit. No sign of a rivited plate or evidence of there being one. Am I correct in assuming that it would have a tag of some type? Thanks in advance.

the number on the lip is correct.
that is the number you use when registering the sled if you only got a bill of sale.

did you get a manta with a fuji or suzuki motor?

Thanks only twins, that’s one mystery solved. This unit appears to have a 432cc fuji fan cooled. Seems to have a good quantity of Polaris items, gauges, skis and etc. Would these have originally been registered as Manufacturer = ARBE, Model = Manta or just Manta or possibly by engine code? Any tips for consideration when doing the paperwork to keep all as original as possible.

the trail mantas were done under the three r industries co.

racing manta’s in the 70″s was under the arbe co.

if you have no papers from seller, than just keep track of your new title and any receipts to make your own binder on sled.
